Let Us Elaborate…
The dimpling of the skin is due to the uneven distribution of pockets of subcutaneous fat. It usually appears on the thighs, buttocks, stomach, abdomen and upper arms. Cellulite is not harmful to our overall health although many of us would like to improve its appearance.
Cellulite is often believed to be a problem for men and women who are overweight. However, some experts believe that it has little to do with the amount of fat under the skin as people within their perfect weight range can also suffer from the condition. They believe it has more to do with a ‘tangle’ of toxins and crystallised waste products parked in inert fat cells, which then make fat cell development uneven and lumpy.
Environmental chemicals may be a factor as we are subject to pollutants, pesticides and preservatives, not only outside but also inside our homes with chemicals making an appearance in most of the cleaning products, shampoos, soaps, bubble bath, deodorants and toothpastes we use on a daily basis. Cigarettes, alcohol and drugs are also pollutants. We ingest many toxic materials which our body finds difficult to eliminate, especially when we eat highly processed foods, refined sugars and salts, starches, meat and dairy.
One way to tackle this is to reduce the toxins we ingest. Toxins from outside the body (exogenous toxins) have to first get past the skin. Bacteria cannot penetrate intact, healthy skin and our mouth, eyes, nose, ears, lungs and digestive tract are protected by saliva, mucus, tears and minute hairs.
Toxins produced inside the body (endogenous toxins) are the result of normal metabolic activities and the disposal of cellular waste (carbon dioxide, urea, and lactic acid) which takes place all the time. Blood carrying these toxins enters our liver, and if it is working well the blood leaves clean. So, unless your health is severely compromised, your body is well-equipped to eliminate toxins from your system. www.myscienceacademy.org
According to Dr Norman Walker (Colon Health – The Key to a Vibrant Life) the colon, whose purpose is to eliminate toxins from the large intestine, is a natural breeding ground for bacteria. There are two types of bacteria – ‘good’ and ‘bad’. In a healthy colon, the good controls the bad and optimum health prevails, but when the bad wins out, sickness prevails. He continues: ‘The colon is the sewage system of the body… not to cleanse the colon is like having the entire garbage collecting staff in your city go on strike for days on end! The accumulation of garbage in the streets creates putrid, odoriferous, unhealthy gases that are dispersed into the atmosphere.’
Although studies and research on this subject are limited, there is an ongoing awareness that what we eat can have an effect on this condition.
