Spirulina

Juicy Trivia

Spirulina is one of the oldest life forms on Earth, blue-green micro algae that helped produce the oxygen in our atmosphere billions of years ago so that other life forms could appear.

Jason Says...

Spirulina is one of the most healthiest superfoods found on the planet. It is an alga that has been growing on the earth for over 3.5 billion years. It is packed with nutrients and antioxidants all of which the body needs. It is 60% easy to digest vegetable protein - without any fat or cholesterol. Mixing a spoonful of spirulina into your daily juice or smoothie is possibly one of the easiest and simplest forms of health insurance you can buy into!

Juicy Benefits

Hundreds of studies have confirmed spirulina's powerhouse status. It has 60-70% complete protein, meaning it has all 8 essential amino acids and 10 non-essential ones that support good health.

Spirulina aids the reparation damage tissues, increases organ function and energy levels, while also helping to aid digestion by increasing intestinal flora such as lactobacillus and bifidus.

Research

A study of 52 adults, ages 37 to 61, examined Spirulina's effects on people recently found to have high cholesterol. Study participants took 1 gram of Spirulina supplements a day for 12 weeks, and gave fasting blood samples at the beginning and end of the study. By the end of the experiment, average levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol and the potentially harmful LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol decreased. However, blood pressure, weight and body mass index readings did not change, according to the July 2013 paper published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
