Back to 7lbs in 7 days retreat

What some of our guests had to say in 2011....

Penny & Peter

I did mention our ‘results’ in an email to my first week group - which included Becky - but they are anobvious improvement to our physical fitness and stamina. Plus we both lost weight - I’ve lost about 10 lbs, I think Peter’s lost almost a stone (but he’s very vague about what he weighed before he went as he wouldn’t let me see the scales...).

But other health observations include almost no reaction to mosquito bites for the first time in  my life. Ialways react very badly to mosquito bites - huge lumps, itchy, take ages to go - so I had with me sprays, bite cream, a mozzi bracelet, a mozzi net (in case they weren’t provided) and a plug in. I still got 6 bites - but for the first time I didn’t notice them at all because my body had no reaction to them, they were just tiny red spots and not itchy at all. How bizarre.

Also, Peter has for many years had this weird condition that means when he sneezes there is this awful smell of carbon or iron filings around him. The doctors say it is quite common and they have no idea what causes it. Well it’s gone!

Then there is a much more serious result for me. I didn’t tell anyone that I was very hooked onover the counter painkillers for headaches (paracetamol with caffeine, and nurofen) and I normally take 2 of each in one go at least twice a day. I therefore travelled to Montenegro with 5 packets of each - a total of 160 tablets - which would have normally been gone by the end of my holiday. I came home with 152 pills.

And finally, Peter has just got back from the doctors today to see how his cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI are now compared to 2 months ago when he last saw them - and his blood pressure and BMI are both hugely down! He has to wait for his cholesterol result, but the doc can’t believe the transformation. Wonderful.

We also wanted to say what a privilege it was to be with Becky and Amy and Kenny for our two weeks in the mountains. We had a fab time and think the three of them do an amazing job. So thank you to the juicy team. We’ll remember it always.

And thanks to Kenny, Peter and I each had a very spiritual journey along with our improved fitness and weight loss, all of which we aim to continue. In fact I think I’ve left a bit of my heart in Montenegro...

Back after a wonderful and very special week in Montenegro.

I forgot to write in the guest-book before I left, but I'll wrtite it
here instead:
First: The place was so relaxed and so beautiful. What a paradise.
Only juice for a week went well for the both of us. We got hungry at
night, but then in the morning when we started doing yoga, everything was
fine again.

The staff is amazing. Becky are doing an impressive job holding it all
together, always smiling and in a good mood, (I don't know how she does
that, maybe it's the yoga) and giving great talks on
juice/food/excercise. And Amy too, she is so attentive and gives you a
sense of being taken care of.
Ken the yoga teacher is inspiring, and very funny.
It was like they all didn't really work there, but more like just
happened to live there.
One of the things I also liked, was that there wasn't any signs around,
saying that you shouldn't do this or that. Like signs with a picture of a
cell phone with a red cross over it - those usually just makes me want to
get out my cell and start texting and phoning and surfing like mad.

One of the first days I picked up Jason's 'How to quit the drink' from
the library, and something must have resonated with me, because now I
don't drink anymore and I am not going to either. If you'd known me, you
would have realized how big news this is.
For a long time I have been wanting to quit completely. I wasn't a drunk,
but I drank like most people do in Norway (and in the UK) - which is too
much for comfort anyway. I always drank at parties and when I went out in
the evenings. Alchohol has always been a big part of my social life. I
also drank alone, by the way, especially when I was travelling, which I
frequently do by myself.
This spring I started to get really fed up with my own drinking habits.
But I didn't know how to quit. I tried to cut down and have rules, but
that didn't work either. I feared the dread of not drinking, I was afraid
of being bored and boring if I didn' drink, I was afraid of loosing the
chilled bottle of white wine in the fridge to look forward to after a
long working day, to lose the wine would be like losing my best
friend/security blanket etc etc: In other words, I was afraid of
everything they complain about at AA-meetings in American movies.
But then I read this book, and in the beginning I was shaking my head:
Nooo way. But then as the days went by, something started to grow while I
read: a new way of looking at things, a completely new approach that made
so much more sense.

Saturday night I went to my first party after the retreat, and I did not
want alcohol at all. Which surprised me, for I  thought it would at least
be a challenge to 'say no'. But it wasn't - not at all. Quite the
contrary: It was exhilarating to sit there and just be sober. And in a
great mood too. It felt like something heavy had been lifted from my
shoulders.

So the juice-week has for me been quite life changing. I also quit
coffee, since for me there is a link between coffee and alcohol. I am
much calmer in my body, I don't wake up every morning in panic. And this
feeling is so good, it beats everything. Like I am on some kind of
fantastic, all-natural drug.

I just have to be careful so I don't take this for granted.

I will definitely be coming back to the retreat - next time with my two
daughters. (Just have to save up some money first)
They will be 17 and 20 next year, could they both come with me, or do you
have an 18-year age-limit?

Thank you so much!

Steve

Hi Nina,

Hi Nina
Ann and i really enjoyed the retreat and whilst it did rain a little this did nothing to affect our enjoyment - the team did a wonderful job in ensuring that things ran as smoothly as it could, so we are considering a return next year - Just to let you know that i did lose 7 lbs and reduced my BMI by 2 points and Ann lost a little less - but she started from a much lower point - whilst this is good new the major benefit however was the reduction in stress for both of us

best wishes and kind thanks to all of the team for a very enjoyable break

Thank you all so much for a great inspirational week. I really got so much out of the week in terms of taking stock, rejuvenating my mind and body as well as giving myself some targets for a new lifestyle on my return. My juicer arrived just before I got home on Friday and Ive been juicing away ever since! I lost 8lbs in all which is pretty good for one week (think my mountain climb in one hour on the last day might have had something to do with that!)

Im only sorry that we didnt get a chance to say goodbye to Steve before we left and hope that if I manage to get back again next year that he is there the same week. He made yoga so enjoyable with his own style and special humour! Im now looking for a yoga class to keep it up.

Hope to see you all again in the not too distant future.

I just want to thank you all for an exceptional week up the mountain in Turkey.  Prior to the retreat I was already a converted juicer and had done the 7 x days a number of times before, so for me this was not the real challenge.  Given this I was really looking forward more to a detox of the mind, which I can say you well and truly achieved for me.  I totally agree with you that Steve is an exceptional Yogi teacher.  I do not believe that he realises just how good he is......will someone tell him this from me please!  This was an introductory to Yoga for me and I just loved it coupled with the meditation and relaxation it was truly refreshing.  I am pleased to say that I have continued the yoga on my return home and cannot see this changing.

I also believed I was reasonably fit until I met ‘cruel’ Kate, and her young sister Amy!   I bizarrely found I developed a love / hate relationship with toning, circuit and rebound classes.  The more I endured the pain the more I felt re-energized and by the end of the week I realised my fitness level had been well and truly tested and had also been elevated to a new level.  I did not miss one of the classes which I believe is testament to the quality of the coaching and the enthusiasm of the coaches.  Needless to say I have now changed my home exercise regime to include circuits, toning and I took delivery of my ‘Juice Master’ rebounder yesterday.  I do not intend to let me new found energy level drop in any way as I feel fantastic.

I also loved the massage (again top class masseur), the Turkish bath was a great experience and the volley ball was great fun.

I cannot finish without commenting on the overall event which was facilitated most efficiently by Kate.  From understanding everyone’s needs, to the opening and closing talks, to trying to control the weather, she really did care about everyone.  Her passion for juicing and fitness is very infectious and motivating and as such she really enhances and enriches the whole overall experience.   I cannot compliment her enough.

Lastly, I popped myself on the scales on Saturday morning.  Previous 7 x days that I have done at home have seen my weight loss vary from 9lbs to 5lbs, so I know it works.  On the return from the retreat I was amazed to find that I had only lost 3.5lbs.  I was however not disappointed as I felt so much fitter and trimmer and full of energy and I could still feel the extra weight of the awakened muscles.   In addition I have had numerous compliments about how well I am looking which feels great.

So a big thank you and well done to you all, I certainly gained lots from my time with you and have recommended the retreat to my family and friends some of whom I am sure will be with you in the future.  I certainly intend to return at some point.

My Best Regards

Hanniffia

Hi Nina

Just to let you know that I loved my week in the mountains. I was very sceptical and only going to accompany my daughter but I learned so much about nutrition and juicing. I also loved the location - it was absolutely beautiful in spite of the rain. The team were inspirational and a testament to their lifestyle. I am continuing the juicing and my husband is now enjoying the juices too! I'm looking forward to my next retreat.

Lindsey

Thank you again for a fantastic week. I have definitely got much better energy levels than before coming....and yes, I've lost 7lbs.... But most importantly have lots 2 body fat points!
I So enjoyed it and felt I have learnt some really valuble information about 'live' foods and juicing. Also, thank you for getting me back into yoga. What an excellent teacher Steve is. I will definitely be coming back to Turkey (or Portugal!) so am hoping to catch one of his classes again.

Hi Jason

Just to let you know, juicing is just the best.  Over the past two years, I have suffered (and I mean suffered) every day with a headache, gastric flu, vertigo and fatigue.  Having been to several doctors, two specialists, one alternative medical guy, one physio and one osteo (and a partridge in a pear tree etc etc), the diagnosis was that I had a new breed of disease which is being researched at the moment by biologists and zoo-ologists (the zoo bit freaks me....).  The disease seems to pretend to be chrons disease so you kinda leave it be.  However, it only pretends to be chrons so it can get away with doing bad, bad things.  It's a mix of chrons and MS and eats away at your immune system and muscles (starting in your legs) until it has fully taken over your body.

Having the option of going to a clinic in switzerland to be a guinea pig (no doubt knowing my life, it would be "hello, im doctor fritz, come to my cellar) or just to put up with it.    Essentially, 95% of my body was bad bacteria which partied hard with antibiotics etc and rejected anything good.  Soooooo, after trying the tremendous amount of six juices from your book over the course of two years(!), I decided that 21 days in the middle of turkey with nothing but juice would be "interesting".  Anyway, im delighted to say i haven't had any of my ailments since i landed in Turkey, my instinct is that I over-whelmed the bad bacteria with goodness so it didn't have a choice but to accept it.

My Kurt Cobain days seem to be over (breakfast previously was neurofen, lemsip and jelly - rock out!).  I'm going to continue with the juicing each day to keep my stock levels up and would recommend everyone try at least a 7 day juice-a-thon.

Im happy for you to read this to newbies to the Turkey retreat - i feel strongly that it's only 7 days of your life to turn it around physically and mentally.  I did 21 days of juice only (the juice is a food, some people had the opinion that it wasn't - dorks) and didn't have a problem at all with it, i never felt hungry or bored.  I never even felt the need to go into Gockec or go feral and hunt wild boar for dinner....

Thank you so much for bringing my health back to, erm, health - keep up the good work!  If you speak to my three mums (Amy, Charlotte and Nat), please thank them from me for their support.  Nina, thank you too for all your help, you're a special lady..

See you in Portugal in 2012 (Im making it an annual homage now)

thanks again

Nigel

Hi Nina thanks to you and the girls for a lovely time last week. I had a
week in fethiye doing some divin and tried to b quite good did some runs and
lots of walking. One of my goals was to lose a stone and managed to lose 16
lbs over the 2 weeks, was also stressed and tired beforehand and came back
relaxed and calm with renewed energy and impetus to juice like two years ago
I also would like to keep the weight off and not yoyo. I did not put any of
the weight back on ( 11lb ) 2 years ago and my weight stayed stable for the
first time in 35 years and I can't explain how much confidence I gained from
that so a heart felt thanks to all the juicy team.

Mel

Sarah

Dear Nina, Kate , Natalie and debs,- you girls rock!!!!!

What can I say, I left it a week before I touched base just to see if I could keep myself on the right track - and i have. It's a fantastic feeling getting up everyday with a clear mind and the determination to take each day at a time with the goal at the end of it to be even healthier and happier than u were when u got up!!

Going to the resort was definitely the best thing I have done for myself in years. I had read Jason’s books and done the 7lbs in 7 days programme way back in June, and I felt fantastic after the week, but as the summer went on I fell off the health wagon and royally landed on my arse!!. The week in Turkey was an eye opener and a kick start to get me back on track. Getting up every morning knowing u were  going to have an active energetic fun packed day was brilliant. The people were amazing and maybe it is fate that a gang of good craic people from all walks of life ended up going at the same time, because really we had a blast together, and certainly kept each others spirits up for the week. (I reckon I lost a few pounds laughin!!) Watching everyone’s energy levels rise daily, and the glow in everyone’s cheeks by Friday is really something u can only believe if u have seen it. Certainly the group of lethargic, stressed out, burnt out people who arrived... were not the same people leaving.

You fella’s really do an amazing job. Nina your a god send at the end of the line, thanks for all your help getting me there. Kate and Natalie - you two are a motivation to ANYBODY to get off there ass and just do it .You both made it so much fun. If the positive energy coming from you girls could be bottled and sold you would be billionaires in no time. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet Jason but you girls really do him justice in a big way. Thank you so so soooooo much for everything. I will keep in touch. If you ever feel like a trip to the Blackforest I have loads of room.

Take care, and we will see u again,…

Lianna

Hi Kate,

I just wanted to say- THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for a wicked time at Montenegro!! Everyone was fantastic from Nina to the girls that made the juices and you and Amy were so helpful and motivational! ; ) Kenny, Ali and Nat were unbelievable and put so much into making my fortnight unique and unforgettable.

I am definitely coming back and I am trying to talk my parents into it- especially my dad who needs to shift a few lbs, or 14....

Although my skin didn't clear up completely I gain SO much more in terms of confidence with my skin and physically (and emotional) strength and agility, it was a truly wonderful and life changing experience. I start my yoga classes this week and I am looking at booking Everest Base Camp and climbing next year to raise money for Psoriasis Scotland, who I am currently doing some marketing work for, then I am going to do a short trip round Nepal/Tibet and India...and might even do a bit of Kudalini when I'm there ; )
