Brilliant Book

I have never written a review before but felt compelled to write a review about this book!

I have been battling with the mental guilt of eating Chocolate for so many years and this book has transformed me and my guilt!

I read the book and although I didn't stop eating Chocolate straight away one day I thought why in the world did I buy a book about wanting to stop eating Chocolate and I thought "I choose not to eat Chocolate"- based on all the facts and mental strategies that Jason talks about in this book. The facts and details had been planted in my brain, they just took a while to kick in!! The past month hasn't been the struggle I thought it would have been. Actually it has been so easy sometimes I think I should be wanting Chocolate!

Since I've stopped buying Chocolate I have realised how I have other "addictions" so have moved on to reading "Slim for life"- although I can see that the same principals apply to giving up Dr Pepper and Coca Cola, oh, and potato chips I'm struggling to apply the Chocolate logic to these other dietary cravings I have (Madness!), so I read on.

For me the challenge was having to acknowledge that I had my own little habits which needed kicking right out! After lunch a Chocolate bar was all part of my little routine!!

I can't stress enough how my guilt at eating Chocolate has been transformed since reading this book. The irony is, what Jason says is not rocket science (no offence), but he writes a book that is so logical and makes such sense I can't believe that everyone is not shouting about it! (And I assure you I am not a Jason evangelist as I have told NO-One about this book or the lifestyle change I have made! I couldn't be bothered with the hassle or being labelled a health freak- I now just decline the offers made to me with no explanation!)

    Hi,

I’m hoping this is going to the right person. I googled “Jason Vale” and this website came up. Anyway, could you please pass this on to him?

I want to say a massive THANK YOU. I don’t care how silly this following sentence sounds but you have changed my life. I bought your book yesterday morning, sat down with a big bar of galaxy and began to read. I had abandoned the chocolate by about page 60…the bit where you say what happens to your body. I was already angry enough with the companies after reading how they condition us.

I have gone from eating about 21 bars a week. I was given 4 chocolate oranges for Christmas and each one was demolished in one sitting. Even a box of Thornton’s chocolates (how sickly are they) in one sitting. I would hide wrappers all over the place and even steal my husbands chocolate but then walk 3 villages away to buy a replacement (I don’t drive). I would justify it by telling myself it was because I was burning the calories off…only to buy more chocolate for myself when I got there.

If we went out for a meal, I was that person that over exaggerated how nice my dessert was. I was that person who tried to get everyone else to eat it.

I read the book in one sitting Jason as it felt like you were sitting on the sofa next to me talking to me. My husband came home last night and he sat on the sofa in shock when I said that I had binned some chocolate. I told him that I didn’t need it anymore. I made the poor guy sit there for half an hour whilst I excitedly told him about your book. He said after that he would give up chocolate too. I told him not to. I said you don’t want to give it up…you just don’t need it anymore.

The big test came last night. (Keep in mind I had only decided I didn’t need it an hour or so before). My Dad phoned to tell me that a gang of lads had tried to break in to my Nan’s house. She had been in and had confronted them. My Nan is only about 7 stone and imagining her standing up to these men terrifies me. Now this would normally result in a massive chocolate binge. We sat there for 3 hours waiting for an update from my Dad (he’d had to cut short the conversation because the police arrived). Not once did I reach for the chocolate. The amazing thing is that I didn’t even think about it! Hubby eventually said “Do you want me to get you some chocolate, will it help?”. I said no. All it would do is made me feel temporarily better then when that faded my Nan would still have been burgled. I said yet again…” I don’t need it anymore”.

Okay so it’s not even been 24 hours but the point is that I had the biggest test last night and I didn’t even struggle. I would give it up for lent every year but the 40 days would be a hellish struggle and would always result in a binge! There was absolutely no struggle. Oh and do you know what did help with my worry last night? A simple cuddle.

Thank you so much. I will be giving my book to my friend today. She came around yesterday and when I opened the door sad (due to another problem) the first thing she did was reach in to her bag and give me chocolate. So typical of what you said in your book.

Anyway, I’m going to stop babbling on now as I’m sure you get so many of these emails that you probably ceased reading half way down! Mind you if you had then how would you know what I just put?!)

Is there anyway I can get into helping out? I mean I so want to “Spread the word!”…do you have a scheme for people selling your book for you or anything? Leaflets or business cards I could hand out? I know so many people that could benefit.

Oh I’m going out for a special meal tomorrow…I will be having fruit for dessert.

Thank you once again for helping me make this big change. I’M FREE AT LAST! J

    Good afternoon

I was looking on your website to see if you would be publishing any more books as I am an avid fan and I was pleased to see my review from Amazon ‘ It worked!’ published. I have read Slim for Life, Stop Drinking and Stop Eating Chocolate and, without exaggeration, they have changed my life. I have lost 13 kilos since reading these books but find that I am eating too many of the healthy foods, like nuts, when I’m stressed at worked even if I am not hungry, any chance of a book to address this, all other authors’ books concentrate on overeating of unhealthy foods like simple carbohydrates?

Also, if you were looking for another book to write could I suggest something similar to Slim for Life but aimed specifically at children/teenagers. My daughter is 12 years old and I do not want to give her any eating issues (she had a brain tumour/chemo etc and I want her to be healthy but do not want to put any pressure on her) but I believe an easy to read book, aimed at the 10 – 16yr old age range in your hypnotic style, (but not in the usual condescending manner usually used in children’s ‘health books’) without the graphic references to sex etc would be a great seller. I am sure schools and health authorities as well as parents would snap it up…

    Keep up the great work.

    Regards

    Karen

…I'm fantastic at the moment actually; I'm just beginning the 7lbs in 7 days programme (for the second time this year). I'm on day 2 and feeling wonderful. …

… Meeting Jason and participating in one of these retreats is actually one of only two goals I have left in life (the other is to have a baby). On the one hand, that shows that I'm lucky to have achieved so much in my life already at only 29 to only have two goals left, and on the other hand it shows how important meeting Jason is to me. My two goals are actually connected in a way, as it is only because of Jason that my husband and I are in a position to start trying to have a baby. For 15 years, from when I was 13 years old until January this year, I struggled with an eating disorder. I tried so many different things to solve the problem over the years, but I had actually I resigned myself to the fact that I would never be able to solve it. Then, about three years ago, I happened to stumble across Chocolate Busters in a bookstore. Back then, Australian bookstores didn't really carry Jason's books. The only reason I found it there (misplaced in the travel section!) was because someone else has ordered it in but then didn't pick it up, and it was put on the shelf to be sold. I took the opportunity to solve one aspect of my problem, and haven't had any cocoa in any form since reading the book three years ago. It wasn't until January this year that I managed to get hold of Slim 4 Life, after ordering it in November the previous year. Only a few pages in, I knew my life would change forever, and it has. I never believed it was possible, but I have been completely free of my eating disorder since I finished reading the book. Almost a year later and I'm healthy enough to start trying to have a baby.

So you can understand why I, like so many people, am so looking forward to meeting Jason. I want a chance to thank him personally, and to learn more from him….

    Thanks so much.

    Kind Regards,

    Lisa

This book is great, just what I needed.

I've gone from eating 20 100g bars of expensive organic choc per week (!) to none!

I just don't want to eat it any more. I've seen it for what it really is.

I now have the money and energy to do the things I like to do!

Just finished reading the book today, since starting yesterday, I haven't touched the stuff!

I found the information in the book very helpful and it has made me realise why I never seemed to be able to "just have one..."!

I am now beginning a new chapter in my life, one without chocolate and the most terrifying thing I now have to do is tell my mum... "Please don't buy me or my little ones any chocolate Easter eggs this year...." as I know I will have to justify to her why not! (May just give her a copy of the book...)

If you are seriously thinking of giving chocolate the boot, I suggest you read this book. If after reading it you are still tempted, then all who take the book seriously will feel very sorry for you indeed!

    Give it a go!

Having read the reviews above I decided to give this book a go. I was at the stage where my love of the brown stuff was so bad I eat 3 chocolate oranges in as many hours and still felt I could eat more!

I’m a sensible woman with a logical mind, so wanted to understand why I could eat so much of this stuff that I know is bad for me?

What can I say, I read the book in one sitting and haven’t touched the stuff since, that was 3 weeks ago and I have felt so much better for it. I’m not going to give it all away, just to say read this book, your health and mental wellbeing will thank you for it.

I have just finished this book today and right now my feeling is that I will not be eating chocolate ever again!

Jason Vale initially explains how our emotional addiction to chocolate is caused by years of brainwashing from an early age due to mass marketing by the chocolate industry. This is all very interesting and makes one look at companies such as Cadburys and Terry’s in a new light and see them for what they really are - large conglomerates with one ambition, profit. He then explains the physical addiction to chocolate as being caused not by chocolate, or cocoa, itself but by the vast amount of sugar and drug like substances which are added to the product to make it palatable. Also shockingly interesting is his exposure on how chocolate companies are buying cocoa from plantations in Africa which are using a labor force of child slavery.

For anybody who has read Alan Carr’s books on quitting smoking, this book will seem familiar. The methodology used here for kicking the chocolate habit is very similar to Carr’s method for stopping smoking.

Whether you are a self-confessed chocolate addict or just sick of the crap that is being strategically placed on our supermarket shelves - read this book.

This book is fantastic. It perhaps states a thing that most people know i.e. that chocolate is bad for you but it explains why it is so bad, why it makes you feel the way it does. It explains how a lifetime of brain-washing and conditioning has made us feel that our lives just aren't complete without tucking in to a bar or two everyday, which of course is nonsense.

Going into the supermarket now, I can walk down the confectionary aisle and I have absolutely no desire to buy chocolate. I definitely do not feel deprived and am not looking forward to a day when I can eat it....I simply do not want it.

The other benefit is that my PMS symptoms have dramatically reduced in just one month. I cannot believe I have suffered (along with my family) all these years when the cure was so simple.

I first heard of this book when one of my friends told me that she was quitting chocolate - forever. My first reaction? "She's crazy! What's life without chocolate?" However, I was curious enough to find out what had sparked this bizarre event, and she lent me this book.

As for me, I was a self-confessed chocoholic. I could quite happily eat an entire pot of Milky Way spread without thinking about it, or get through an entire Selection Box alone. I began reading the book doubtful that it would have any effect, but that was where I was wrong.

From the beginning, Jason Vale encourages the reader to have an open mind as to what he is saying. He then takes the reader on a journey to 'burst the chocolate bubble', as he says, by dispelling myths, unraveling the influence of advertising, and hammering home some truths about the health hazards and unfair slavery connected with chocolate. All this he does with easygoing, humorous words. It is quite easy to finish the book in one sitting; it is so easy to read. It is quite repetitive, but this only serves to emphasize the main points he makes!

By the end of the book, much to my amazement, I had no desire to eat chocolate again. This book is truly incredible. If you have a problem with chocolate, no matter how big or small, I cannot stress how good this book is! I have been lending it to all my friends, my mother, and my sister, so amazed were they at this transformation in me. Buy it!

I bought this book on impulse not knowing a thing about Jason Vale, but as soon as I started reading I liked his style and the way he gets his point across. I have read so many books about giving up sweet things, but not one on chocolate in particular. There are no complicated diet plans or mumbo jumbo, Jason gives you the facts about mass market chocolate and makes you think before grabbing that Snickers bar. Chocolate doesn't do you good, makes you feel crap after eating it, but you still want more. I was hoping that this book would make me look on chocolate in the same way I look at cigarettes, and it does. Now I can pass the endless displays, posters and TV ads thinking, you can't get me! We have all been manipulated by these corporate giants who only think of profit and it's time to open our eyes and see chocolate for what it is. I have just purchased Jason's first book Slim 4 Life Freedom from the Food Trap which I'm looking forward to reading.

Please jason can you write a coffee one. I never was bothered with coffee before but now its my only thing left. Please write a coffee book , i am sure loads of people would buy it!!!

JUICE MASTER REPLY: There's a big section on caffeine in most of Jason's books so we would recommend a read of Slim for Life to get the information you need.

I have just finished reading your book “Chocolate Busters” and I want to thank you for helping me be free of chocolate. I never saw myself as a “chocoholic” I was just one of those people who really beliefs “There is never anything wrong with me that chocolate can not fix”. Now that I’m free of the stuff, I realize that you are so right it is not a crutch and I still get happy and sad all without chocolate. I’ve never read a “self help” book before and I expected lots of intelligent lingo and righteousness and you telling me that I can not eat it ever again. I was really pleasantly surprised. Your book is easy to read and you come across as a normal person not some PHD with too many degrees to count that has nothing in common with the person on the street. Your book really helped me, and while I agree with you that IT is me, I never would have known that I can kick the habit, and that it will be so easy. I am now so exited and hyped up about being healthy that I am going to go buy your book “Slim 4 life”.
Just one question please:
How do I get my 3 year old son off chocolate without him thinking that he was bad and I’m now punishing him? I’ve never given him a chocolate bar, but he loves Smarties. Once again thank you so much for helping me get rid of something I never thought I would be able to live without.
JUICEMASTER REPLY:
Regarding your little one, going by personal experience try the following:
Try not to have junk foods in the house
Replace the chocolate with nuts, seeds, raisins, live-yoghurt, berries and other fruits
When out shopping (and if your little one is in a buggy or seated on the trolley) give them a toy or book to keep them entertained and distracted from the sweets and other junk foods being displayed around the shops and by the payment area’s. And keep his favourite healthy snack in your bag if needed.
When the junk foods are offered to your son by family and friends try and avoid causing an issue on it as this attention will only draw your son to become more inquisitive and want to rebel against the denials.
I believe that what they do not have or see they will not miss. And these alternative treats are healthy and very nice too.
